Leena Mohanty a odia girl, a probing mind and with her graceful intricacies of gestures and eloquent expressions in many Odissi dance performances has made her eminent in screen world.




She was born to Mother Late Annapurna, who was a gifted singer and father Basudev Satpathy an industrialist with spiritual in his approach and spirit.. of Odisha. Right from the beginning she was exposed to an atmosphere of art, music and spiritualism.


Leena came under the tutelage of a rare and gifted guru Shri Deba Prasad Das since her childhood. Deba Prasad Das was extremely innovative, original, creative and had a special quality in shaping the subtle, psychological framework of a child. Leena kept visiting Vrindavan every year and invariably performed in the temples. In the process, she got the blessings of the vaishnava which inspired further to keep up her art. After the death of her guru, Leena continued her dance training under Akademi awardee guru Durga Charan Ranbir.


Her dedication in dance was steadily refurbished by a series of awards and recognition which she got in regular interval.
Leena, a student of Physics and later a Master in Business Administration from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, with a brilliant academic record chose dance as her medium of expression.
At present, Leena is involved in her own institute 'Bansi Bilas' where she works with kids to shape up their body and mind and make them understand the nuances of Odissi. She also imparts training in movements at 'Mukti' - a contemporary theatre group.




She is one of the leading exponents of Odissi dance. A senior dancer with wide national and international repute, Leena is not only born to dance, but has established her credentials through sheer hard work and dedication to her art. A dancer with a strong and impeccable command of technique, her greatest asset is her joy which she transmits to her art. A versatile dancer with a vision, she opens out with her graceful intricacies of gestures and eloquent expressions. A committed dancer, her dance is marked with clarity and precision evoking the Rasa with its full lusture and essence. A dancer who has wide international exposure. She runs her own institution ‘Bansi Bilas’which is involved in training young and upcoming dancers of Guru Deba prasad Das school of Odissi and which provides a creative outlet for dancers, musicians and art lovers in Bhubaneswar.






Bangalore-based Bijayini Satpathy and Leena Mohanty, Odissi dancers from Orissa, have been named as the recipients of the first Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Awards for 2006, which has been instituted recently in memory of the late legendary by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi meant for young and promising artistes of the nation in the field of dance, music and acting.


She was the recipients of the prestigious Mahari Award for her excellence in the field of Odissi dance.


It is listen that she has been offered a Role with Shilpa Shetty in a Multi Lingual Film "The Desire" by Sarat Hegade and R.Sarath. Which film is flodded high profile peoples like Anupam Kher, Jayaprada, Sachi, Khade Khan, Nakul Baid and No. one Chaina actor Jiya Hu.
